We invite you to attend a free virtual CLE that will explore bullying in the legal profession, which is defined as inappropriate behavior intended to intimidate, humiliate, or control the actions of another person, including verbal, nonverbal, or physical acts.

Based on data from the Commission’s 2024 Bullying in the Legal Profession study, 24% of all active Illinois attorneys reported being bullied, with it disproportionately impacting certain groups. Bullying was shown to negatively impact lawyers’ physical, emotional, and professional health, with almost 20% of lawyers reporting that they had left a job practicing law because of bullying.

During the event, we will discuss:

Data from the Commission’s Bullying in the Legal Profession report, which explored the experiences and impact of bullying in the legal profession based on a study of more than 6,000 Illinois lawyers.
Insight from leading researchers on why people engage in workplace bullying, the physical, emotional, and professional impacts of bullying, and why bystanders often refrain from intervening or offering support.
Personal stories from Illinois lawyers who have been impacted by and witnessed bullying in the profession.
Recommendations for addressing and preventing bullying for individuals, bar associations, courts, and other organizations.

In addition, the Commission will launch a 6-day bullying in the legal profession prevention challenge with actions lawyers and bar associations can take to combat bullying.

1.5 hours of diversity and inclusion CLE credit in Illinois will be provided.
